What does it mean to be School Edition?

This is a slightly shortened version of the full production and the next step up from the Jr. productions we have done in the past. This production adjusts language and situations to be appropriate for a “school audiences” to watch and/or perform it.

Rehearsal & Performance details

Rehearsals will be Tuesdays 6-9, Friday 6-9 and Saturday 10-3. See rehearsal schedule calendar below.

Performances & Rehearsals will be held at Creative Grounds Fine Arts Academy Studio One – at the Greenwood Park Mall

Performances will be held in person, and streamed online if needed. Performance dates will depend on number of students who audition (one week or two weeks of performances).

Performance dates are set for April 29-May 2 and May 6-9 if needed based on casting results.

Casting Information

This production has been cast.  You can find the cast list here. This production is open to students ages 12-18 ONLY.

Production & Audition Fees

Audition Fees are $25 per student. The audition fee is applied to your total Production Fee of $175 which makes the remaining balance $150.  Production fees may be paid in payments split over 6 weeks, but must be paid in full before Tech Week begins.  Audition fees are non-transferrable and not refundable. Limited number of scholarships are available for the production. Please contact Mark Landis to receive the application for Scholarship.

Students are only called for rehearsal when they are needed and will not be called for the entire rehearsal unless needed.  Pizza will NOT be available on Friday.

Saturdays, any student that is called and might need to eat will be encouraged to bring a sack lunch or snack.

Auditions

Auditioning for Les Miserables School Edition will be different than our “normal” so that we can begin rehearsals sooner.  Students must submit their one minute song or monologue video via email or Google Drive by no later than January 10 at 12:00PM (noon).  Audition paperwork will also be required to be filled out, no later than January 10 at noon.  A separate email with further details for how to submit your video and a link to the online audition paperwork will be sent by January 4th to all who have signed up to audition and every 2 days after the 4th.

As part of their video submission students should have the following on the video:

  • Student name
  • Student age
  • Any specific role you’d like, and/or that you’d accept any role
  • What you’ll be singing/doing for us
  • Do you have any special talents we should know? -BRIEFLY describe these talents
  • Your one minute song or monologue
  • SMILE!!

Videos should be labeled like the following when uploaded or shared:  Last name First name Les Mis Audition

Rehearsal locations are TBA as we work through some final details. We have 2 churches who are able to host us.  Specific location may change based on availability of spaces.

Performance dates are set for November 4-8 and 12-14 if needed based on casting results.

The Show Must Go ONLINE

We are super excited about this opportunity.  We know that a LOT of kids are wanting to perform and keep doing what they LOVE, so…we’ve purchased the rights to do this show!

This show will NOT have an audition process, however we will limit the number of people who play each character.  Some are singing roles, others are not. Choose what you feel best fits YOU, but choose wisely.  It is possible that you may be asked to switch to a different role based on needs!

We are looking forward to seeing this Show come together…ONLINE!

By signing up below, you also signify you’ve read the Video & Photo Release. No one may perform In this production without a signed release specific to THIS production. CLICK HERE to view it and sign it.

Students will be sent the information for this show and the ‘rehearsal’ process will begin on 4/20. We with the whole show completed by 5/1. All performers must be off-book with their entire monologue/and song memorized when they record and submit their scene for the first “rehearsal” for that scene. Scenes are each between 30 seconds and 2 minutes in length.  Students will be sent instructions on how to submit their video recordings.

Virtual rehearsals will be held on the following afternoons via Zoom as needed to aide in your performances:

4/20 – 4:00-5:00 – All students signed up
4/21 – 3:00-4:00 – Scenes 1-5
4/22 – 3:00-4:00 – Scenes 6-10
4/23 – 3:00-4:00 – Scenes 10-15
4/24 – 3:00-4:00 – Scenes 16-20
4/27 – 4:00-5:00 – Scenes 21-25
4/28 – 3:00-4:00 – Scenes 1-8
4/29 – 3:00-4:00 – Scenes 9-17
4/30 – 3:00-4:00 – Scenes 18-25

Curtains – A Community Theatre Production

We hope to begin in person rehearsals in May. We will begin virtual rehearsals of characterization and lines prior to May 1, as per our calendar. 

Rehearsals will be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 6:30-9:00 in person beginning May 6. 

Rehearsals will take place at Southland Community Church or online, based on availability of space and CDC recommendations.

Performances location is TBA, Dates are scheduled for June 25-28

Full Rehearsal Schedule – on our calendar here.  This is ESTIMATED and may adjust based on cast needs for learning blocking and music.

Fees

We are a non-profit. Our student productions have a fee structure of $175 including their audition fee. For our Community Theatre production we have a slightly different structure due to less costs associated with the performance. We do not charge an audition fee and only charge $125 for the production. You can choose to raise sponsorships for the show totaling the amount of $250 and your production fee is waived. If you have a financial need and cannot afford the production fee, please email Mark Landis at mark@cgfinearts.org to receive our Financial Aide information.

Costumes

Costumes are provided wherever possible, but we will ask you provide materials such as pants and shoes that you own or can be found at Goodwill.
